This is a typeface that I designed. It was a very interesting experience and I learned a lot. It was my first time working in glyphs, and I quite enjoyed sitting and kerning for hours on end. Through research, a lot of sketching, and many iterations, Burrow was formed.
Burrow is a monoweight serif typeface that was designed to feel both personable and efficient. Its rounded edges aren’t too harsh, but still maintain character. There are specific elements that add intrigue. The more reserved quality of the typeface lays the groundwork for potential alternative characters with even more personality. Inspiration came from 1970s album artwork, and the boldness of hand painted signs.
The Burrow is the name of where the Weasley family lives in the Harry Potter series, and where the name of this typeface comes from. The Weasleys are very practical, not too showy or rich, but still manage to be unique. The Burrow reflects those qualities, and thus, so does this typeface.
